LOUMA SALLOUM
APPLICATION
Thank you for taking the time to view samples of my work. I’d love to be part of the summer residency, and I am totally fluent in French! My name is Louma Salloum, and I live in Seattle, WA.
I’ve created this page to gather for you the different main aspects of my art.
FASHION ILLUSTRATION
At the core, I am a fashion illustrator; my favorite illustration subject being women, and more recently women in motion (as you will see in the samples below) to celebrate their vibrancy, strength, and power.
I work digitally, using the techniques of hand-drawing: I draw free-style with a stylus, and I generally use colors in the same ways they are used on paper, and I think the result is quite appealing. Occasionally, I would add paint, metallics, paper, gold leaf, or embroidery stitching to certain pieces after printing to add an element of depth.
This illustration was chosen among the semi-finalists in the annual FIDA fashion illustrations awards.
MUSIC CULTURE
I also love to venture in drawing my favorite music icons. I like the minimalistic style which looks simple, but is indeed quite thoughtful. These pieces are among my most popular:
CUSTOM PORTRAITS
I also do commission work and custom illustrations:
COMMUNITY PROJECTS
I have recently been part of a project in Seattle to embellish the electric signal boxes at intersections, among a group of other local artists. Working with others and being part of a collective project has been an ambition of mine and this signal box project has been wonderful. It’s not complete yet, so I made this small mock-up of what my work will look like:
LARGE SCALE CITY ART
My women illustrations look great in large scale in public places, and convey a vibe of strength and independence that elevates the environment.
OTHER TOPIC ILLUSTRATIONS
My style can encompass a variety of subjects. Here are some more random drawings of mine that I created for the “Affirmations to color” yearly calendar that I sell through my small business:
LOCAL CLASSES FOR GIRLS
I have been teaching character/figure illustration locally to young girls as well in the last few years, and that part is non-digital. I use markers and coloring pencils for these drawings and I teach the techniques to use them. I love coming up with different creative themes for each of my class series and infusing them with an empowering element to elevate my students and raise their confidence.
Thank you for reading and looking through my experience and portfolio.
The fact that I am a small business owner and product designer may be less relevant to the residency program, but is worth mentioning. My company, Pokidots, has been in business since 2016 and expanding locally and globally.
I hope I’ll be chosen and that I’ll get to meet you soon.
Louma.
